2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards Nominees Revealed

Channel O just announced the nominees for the 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards and Davido leads with five nominations including; Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Afro Pop Video, Most Gifted West Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year, all for Aye and Most Gifted Dance Video for Skelewu. 2face, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, Kcee, P-Square, Orezi, Jesse Jagz, Flavour, Patoranking, Iyanya, Niyola, Burna Boy, Phyno and Dr Sid were all nominated.

Did Tiwa Savage beget Seyi Shay?

The global music industry has from time immemorial been a male dominated industry.
This situation is clearly observable as well in the Nigeria music industry where for one female rapper there are 5 male rappers and for one female singer, you can find 20 male singers.

Not to get you bored, this piece is actually not a comparism feature between male artistes and their female counterparts but an insight to how well Nigerian female artistes are thriving in spite of the strive amongst males. Tiwa-Savage and Seyi-Shay happen to be just two of our celebrated female artistes whom we are confidently proud of.

In 2010, we all got introduced to Tiwa-Savage when she released her first single under Flytime Entertainment headed by Cecil Hammond; the song titled “Kele Kele” was produced by H-Money and ever since Tiwa has worked her way to becoming one of Nigeria favorite female artistes.
Two years later, we were made to notice another Nigeria talented female artiste- Seyi Shay. Following the path of Tiwa, Seyi-Shay released her official singles “No Lele” and “Loving Ur Way” produced by H-Money and was also released under Cecil’s Flytime Entertainment as well.
It struck me to observe that beside the fact that these two female artistes chose to work with the same producer on their first singles which is based on their productive stay in England, there seems to be more similarities in their musical career.

'Ewedu' Can Prevent Ebola?

Professor Adebukola Ositelu, consultant at the Lagos University Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba has said that Ewedu (known in English as a Long-Fruited vegetable), has the capability of preventing and maybe curing the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) by boosting the immune system.

Prof. Ositelu who disclosed this at the annual African Traditional Medicine Day organised by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday, September 4 at Ikeja, Lagos, said the vegetable had a high potency to boost the immune system such that it’s usage would prevent an individual from being infected with Ebola.
Ositelu, who is a professor of ‎Ophthalmology at the University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG), added that the vegetable could also get rid of the virus in the case of an infected person, Daily Sun reports.
On how to administer the treatment, she said the Ewedu should be rinsed thoroughly with liquid vinegar. Then it should be blended and cooked with drinkable water, without adding salt or potash (locally called akaun) or any other ingredients.

In recent times, Dbanj has been linked with a lot of ladies, but the recent news pipping hot is his public show with Gorgeous Adama Indimi who is one of the daughters of billionaire oil magnate, Maiduguri-based Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, the Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources.
Reports making round is that the kokomaster, D’banj has allegedly proposed to his girlfriiend, Adama Indimi.
Adama who has been seen in the company of D’Banj, has been flaunting a diamond ring in new pictures she posted on Instagram, prompting rumors of an engagement.
She is a model and runs a successful travel agency, Kauna Solutions. She is a masters degree holder from Lynn University, Florida US. Although Linda Ikeji confirms that the beautiful model briefly dated D’banj a few years ago but both had to go their ways after a while, it looks like the love has actually not turned sour as they have been stepping out recently, especially to family functions.  She was spotted at the birthday party of Dbanj’s mum, a private birthday get-together meant for just the children and the mum.
However, the diamond ring she’s showing off has made many to guess if actually she and D’Banj engaged already after it was spotted on her left finger at Dbanj’s mum 61st birthday celebration.

Mourinho Names Fabregas As Chelsea's Playmaker

Coach of Chelsea football club, Jose Mourinho has named former Arsenal captain, Cesc Fabregas as Chelsea’s new playmaker in place of the departed Frank Lampard.
The Portuguese manager also urged the club’s fans to greet the midfielder, bought from Barcelona in the summer, before Tuesday’s first home friendly in eight years on Tuesday, 12 August, 2014.
Chelsea meet Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge and plan to parade their full senior squad on the pitch before the sold-out match.
“Lampard is our history, but Fabregas is our future,” Mourinho told the club website (www.chelseafc.com), adding that both he and his players believe the Spaniard is the right man to play in central midfield.

“Frank is the history of the club, history nobody can forget,” said Mourinho. “Fabregas is the future. History is history, but the future is more important at the moment.
“My opinion, and the opinion of my players, is that Fabregas is the right player to occupy that central position in midfield.”
Reuters reports that Mourinho made this statement after Chelsea beat Ferencvaros 2-1 in Budapest in a friendly on Sunday courtesy of goals from Ramires and Fabregas, who impressed after his introduction at the interval.

“They (Ferencvaros) fought for a result until the last minute and that was good for us,” said Mourinho. “They competed and that was important.”
Fabregas’ solo goal capped a fine display that convinced many observers that he will be a more than adequate successor to all-time Chelsea top scorer Lampard.

Wenger Attacks Gerrard Says Suarez Is Not Bigger Than Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has come out and defended the club he manages, Arsenal fc after Liverpoool captain Steven Gerrard had claimed Luis Suarez was too good for the North London club.
The Gunners had tried to buy Luis Suarez last Season but due to misunderstanding in the strikers release clause in his contract, the deal would have passed.
Suarez then went on and scored 31 goals for Liverpool despite losing the first 6 games due to suspension.
Suarez this summer moved to Barcelona for a club record transfer fee and Gerrard revealed he had told Suarez how good he was.
He said: ‘Don’t go to Arsenal’,” the Liverpool captain told several British newspapers on Thursday. “With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal.”
Wenger yesterday came out and said no one player is too good for Arsenal, he said: “You’re never too good for Arsenal and Steven Gerrard knows that,” “But I can understand completely that he asked him to stay because he wanted him (Suarez) to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League.
But it didn’t happen, and anyway, Suarez left.”
Wenger also talked about the club is still looking for more targets with 30 days left in the transfer window, and the Vermalaen issue.
He said Vermalaen is still in the club and any new information will pass on to the media.
