TRAGIC DEATHS: Nigerian Musicians/Actors That Died In 2013
Death,
it is generally believed, is an inevitable end for all creatures. This
year, the entertainment industry has literally been hit at different
times by the deaths of some notable celebrities.
In some sense, it has been like a harvest of deaths, writes Mercy Michael.
They are in the eyes of the public. When anything happens to them, the people are always eager to know the details. Their privacy is flung out of the window the moment they become celebrities. Welcome to the world of entertainers, actors, actresses and musicians.
This outgoing year the entertainment industry has been hit by good news. It has also been hit by bad news. Some of these bad news were about the death of members of the industry, who, over the years, have brought smiles to the faces of the people, either with their music or their acting prowess.
From the aged Fatai Rolling Dollars to the youthful Goldie, the industry has had its fair share of the deaths in the year.
Fatai Rolling Dollar

One of Nigeria’s oldest highlife musicians, Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju, popularly known as Fatai Rolling Dollars, died in June this year.
He died at 85 at Marritol Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, following a brief illness.
Rolling Dollars, who had three wives and 16 children, was reportedly on a musical tour of the United States when he took ill and had to return home.
He was admitted initially at Ahmadiya Hospital in Abule-Egba area of Lagos, before he was transferred to Marritol Hospital in Surulere, where he died.
Juju music legend-turned-Evangelist, Ebenezer Obey, while reacting to Rolling Dollars’ death, described him as “an epitome of decency and a talented musician.”

F1 legend Michael Schumacher fighting for his life following horrific skiing accident
Doctors who treated the seven-time Formula One world champion said he would ‘have died’ had he not been wearing a crash helmet. But despite the helmet, Michael Schumacher suffered serious head injuries that has left him in a coma since the accident. The German driver required immediate brain surgery as he got to the hospital and is currently being kept in an induced coma, officials said.
Speaking at a press conference at the
Grenoble Hospital where he's being treated, Doctors said they can't predict the future for Michael
Schumacher.
"Michael Schumacher was the victim of very serious trauma. He was very agitated when he arrived and we decided he was in a critical situation and he quickly went into a coma. The neurosurgical treatment he received brought us quite a lot of information. We had to operate urgently to release some pressure in his head. Unfortunately, he has some lesions within his brain. We judge him to be in a very serious situation. We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher." Continue...
OJB calls out D'banj in new intervew, says celebs used his donation as competition

"The most disappointing one for me is D'banj because he passed through my hands, he was trained under my tutelage. That is offensive. I don't care if you're with Kanye West, you can't forget your root. I won't call anybody else's name but I will call his because it hurts. His own hurts very deep. And he never tried to reach out to me. It's not like we parted on fighting terms. He told me he had to go to London and he went. And when he came back it was Don Jazzy, and I said OK, that's fine. And what he did worked and I'm very proud of him, the love I had for him, that's why it hurts more. He should have come out to say no, I don't know why you people are saying all this, I didn't give OJB N7million, maybe a part of him felt embarrassed because at the end of the day, really, are you not supposed to do something?" OJB says during the interviewHe also talked about how people used his fund raiser as competition and once again addresses the bounced cheques. Continue....

Oprah to blame for Golden Globe snub of ‘The Butler' say cast & crew
When asked how come ‘The Butler’ film has been shut out of the nominations for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards- after getting rave reviews from critics and doing well at the box office- the entire cast and crew of the film unanimously pointed accusing fingers at Oprah Winfrey, according to reports.
“Frankly speaking, look no further than Oprah,” said The Butler Director, Lee Daniels. “I knew it was wrong casting her as Gloria Gaines but I didn’t have the bottle to tell her. I mean how do you tell a billionaire she really can’t hack it on the big screen?”Forest Whitaker, Academy Award winner, is said to be devastated. As the lead character in The Butler, playing Cecil Gaines, Whitaker is said to have been very optimistic on adding a 2nd golden statuette to his Oscar glory next year. The Golden Globe is often seen as a barometer for Oscar nominations. Whitaker is said to be furious Oprah could have cost him a second Oscar.
“This is exactly what I tried telling Lee when he told me Oprah was going to play Gloria Gaines,” Whitaker confided to close friends. “Seriously I had my doubts about her. I told Lee ‘that woman has no place in a film’. Nobody wants to watch a billionaire in the movies. The only place for a billionaire in a film is as a producer. I mean just give us some money to make the film and forget about getting a part.”
At post time Hollywood grapevine has it that Winfrey has vowed to use her wealth and clout to influence next year’s Academy Awards nominations in favour of her character in The Butler, as best actress or best supporting actress or whatever.

Anyone who says I bleach is stupid' - former Governor Alao-Akala
He doesn't bleach? That hand could have fooled me. In an interview with Saturday Punch,
former governor of Oyo State Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, denied bleaching
his skin and said anyone who says he's bleaching is very stupid.
During the interview, a Punch reporter asked him, 'Is it part of your
own fashion to bleach?' OMG! Can't believe he asked that question
straight up...lol. Big ups to the reporter.
Alao-Akala replied...
Bleach? That is stupidity; you are asking a very stupid question, how can I bleach? You are very stupid to ask that question. What do you mean by that? What gave you that impression?
(He pulled up his clothe and singlet to show his fair complexion.)
Read the full interview on PunchIs this bleaching? Have you seen the cream that I use that makes me bleach or did you know me when I was black? So if you want to write that, put it there that I said you are very stupid to ask me that kind of question. Don’t ask that kind of question again. What you don’t know; you ask. You don’t even know my parents. Is my wife complaining or my children? I don’t know what gave anybody the impression that I bleach. You don’t know me; do you know what it takes to bleach?

The Secret Of My Success & How I Deal With Area Boys –Actress, Mercy Aigbe
Mercy
Aigbe-Gentry is one actress that has no doubt paid her dues in the
industry in an interview she talks about the secret of her success.

The beautiful mother of one attributes her success to the grace of God, hard work and at times being favored. According to her "I believe that acting is the talent God gave me, so I stood upon that Word, so I put my God before everything I do, then also hard work, professionalism and discipline, I can say they are the things I’m doing to get to where I’m going to. But what’s actually taking me to where I’m going to, I can say categorically is the grace of God Almighty"
How do you feel when people meet you and gush that they are so happy to meet you?
I feel really loved because that means they appreciate what you do, for people to want to talk to you when they see you, for them to wave at you and all that. I feel blessed and loved because I know the work I’m doing is being appreciated.
In the same vein, do area boys accost you for money?
Of course they do. I think that is their own way of showing that they are your fans. And anytime they see you, they are like ‘Ah! E fun wa lowo’ which means you should give them money.
And when they request, what do you do?
At times, I give them and at times I don’t. It depends on my mood actually. And it depends on the way they talk to me.
What is the highest amount you've ever given them?
I can’t say an amount in particular. I just give them as my mood dictates.

'Yeezus' is the top one or two album on every single list. But only gets two nominations from the Grammys. What are they trying to say? Do they think that I wouldn't notice? Do they think that, someway, I don't have the power to completely diminish all of their credibility at this moment?"
"And people come to me and congratulate me on those two nominations. f**k those nominations!"Lol @power to diminish Grammy credibility. This guy is sometimes so delusional. See the full rant after the cut...
