Eaglets' Iheanacho: I'm Feeling A Million Things

photo - Eaglets' Iheanacho: I'm Feeling A Million Things
Nigeria's outstanding No10 Kelechi Iheanacho put on a dazzling display of football in United Arab Emirates, scoring six goals and setting up a further seven en route to a fourth title for the west Africans. A playmaker and lethal finisher all rolled into one, his trademark goal celebrations had the Nigerian fans in UAE on their feet from start to finish.
FIFA.com caught up with the best player of the 2013 U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates to talk about how it feels to be a world champion, his chat with Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu and why he had doubts about his size and strength when he was called into the national team camp.
How does it feel to be a world champion?
Kelechi Iheanacho: I feel good, I feel good, I feel good! I thank God because I feel so good. I don’t know if I can find the words to say what I’m actually feeling. I can’t even tell what I’m feeling because I’m feeling a millions things at the same time. I am feeling love for my teammates and my family and my country. I feel all of it. I’m on a high for winning the World Cup and the Golden Ball [best player].
It’s all smiles here in the locker-room. How close to you feel to your teammates at this moment?
None of this could have been possible without my teammates. They are the best. The way we all cooperated together to win the World Cup is simple amazing. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever felt. I give them thanks for making it possible for us to do what we did.
You were named the tournament’s best player and you were the second top-scorer. How does that feel on a personal level?
It means a lot to me personally because when I came into the national team camp I felt uneasy. A lot of the boys thought maybe I was too small, too skinny to be a good player. But I realized now with what I’ve done here that God is preparing something special for me.
It’s been an exciting few weeks for you and your Golden Eaglets here in the United Arab Emirates. How has your time been?
I’ve loved the time I’ve spent here in UAE. It’s a wonderful country and it was amazing for me and my teammates to see a different part of the world and to show our football to the people here. I will remember it always.
You had tremendous support from Nigerian fans here for all of your games. How important was that?
The fans here have supported us so much. It’s been incredible. They’ve given us courage and cheered us up when things weren’t going so well. The fans here in the stadium and the ones back home, they own a part of this trophy too. They helped us to win it.
One of Nigeria’s best-ever players, Nwankwo Kanu, was here to watch the final, and you two had a long chat after the whistle. What did you talk about?
He is the true hero of football in our country. Back home, he’s like a father, like a brother. He’s like everything to me. He always gives us advice. He comes to train with us, to make sure we’re happy and moving in the right direction. He helps us to understand what football is really about, and what it takes to make it in the game. Talking with him and being with him is just a great honour.
Do you have a message for the people back home?
I just want to send my love back home; to everyone and to everything Nigerian

Nigeria-Mexico 3:0 – Golden Eaglets, Most Successful Team In FIFA U-17 World Cup History (PHOTOS)

Nigeria became the most successful team in FIFA U-17 World Cup history with a 3-0 win over holders Mexico at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The final was a rematch of the 6-1 win Nigeria inflicted on the Mexicans in Group F play and sees the Golden Eaglets lay hands on the junior world trophy for the fourth time in their history, one better than South American giants Brazil.
When the final whistle went in the UAE capital, fans and players alike rejoiced, fingers pointed to the sky, with what has become the traditional Nigerian celebration of "yes, yes yes!"
Mexico kept the ball for a full two minutes at the start of the game, moving it around well and making the Nigerians chase. El Tri even managed the first chance on goal after six minutes. Osvaldo Rodriguez crossed from the left, but Alejandro Diaz couldn’t keep his close-range effort the right side of the post. Two minutes on and Ivan Ochoa – who scored twice in the semi-final win over Argentina – saw his off-balance header pushed over the bar by Dele Alampasu.
The corner came to nothing for the Mexicans, but Nigeria benefitted greatly by bursting out on a classic counter-attack. Kelechi Iheanacho went flying up the pitch. With just one Mexican defender in position, the No10 Golden Eaglet laid the ball in for Taiwo Awoniyi who then fed it on to Musa Yahaha, who had a little help from Erick Aguirre. The Mexican midfielder mistakenly hit the ball into his own net in an attempt to recover.

With the score 1-0, Musa Muhammed was giving the Mexicans fits with his rampaging runs up the right side. He pinned the opponents back at every opportunity. As the first half pushed toward the interval, the Africans upped their tempo in search of a second goal. Yahaya rattled the crossbar with a stunning effort from 20 yards out after 38 minutes. Pressure was mounting and the fans in the stands were on their feet when Awoniyi’s bicycle-kick from the penalty spot forced Raul Gudino into a magnificent reaction save in the dying moments of the half.
The second period began with a frenzy of attacks at both ends of the pitch, but it was Nigeria who made theirs count, making it 2-0 in the 56th minute. Captain Muhammed unleashed a wicked swirling shot that Mexican keeper Gudino simply couldn’t hang on to. He spilled a rebound directly to the feet of the most dangerous man on the pitch, and Iheanacho made no mistake dispatching his sixth goal of the tournament.
With a quarter-hour to go, Mexico managed to carve out a rare second-half chance, but Ochoa's header from close-range slipped wide of the post as the holders began to wilt under the ceaseless pressure of the buzzing Nigerians. Muhammed added a third with ten minutes to go, curling a sublime free-kick into the top corner.
Anyone in UAE who had the pleasure to see them will tell you that this Nigerian team were the best on offer. Even a few of the Mexican fans were mumbling "yes, yes, yes" when the final whistle went on Nigeria's glorious campaign here in UAE.
Nigeria had earlier lifted the cadets' World Cup in 1985, 1993, and 2007.

World's Richest Piece Of Land Is In Africa

The title "world's richest piece of real estate" may conjure up images of Rodeo Drive, the French Riviera or New York City's Fifth Avenue, but it may actually be located in…Botswana.
photo
According to Debswana, a mining conglomerate jointly owned by De Beers and the Botswana government, the richest piece of land on the planet may very well be the Jwaneng diamond mine, one of the world's five super pits.
"Jwaneng mine is the most valuable diamond mine in the world by value," says Esther Kanaimba-Senai, the head of corporate affairs for Debswana in Botswana. "Each carat that we mine fetches a lot more money. … In addition the volume that we produce lends itself to be the most valuable mine in the world."
The Jwaneng mine produces about 10-million carats a year, and now they're about to embark in a super project to go even deeper into the earth to increase output.
The mine currently runs 1,150 feet below the earth's surface and is already in the process of Cut 8, a $3.4-billion dollar operation to push back one edge of the pit to expand mining.
The new massive earth-moving operation - called Cut 9 - if approved, could drive the mine 28 hundred feet below the earth's surface and require moving 1 billion tons of rock.
Kanaimba-Senai hesitates to give specifics on what Cut 9 may accomplish, as they are currently doing a land survey and approval for any plan is still several months away, but the most valuable piece of land on earth may prove to be even more valuable than in years past.
"I can't tell you how many of them are there, all I know is that it will be sufficient to be able to propel the economy of this country."
